Jazz choreography is designed using solid dance technique as its foundation. It emphasizes extension, correct placement, continual flow of weight changes, and display of a variety of technical skills such as battements (kick combinations), turn sequences, and leap series. Jazz choreography is often stylized.
Hip-Hop choreography is designed to feature both "street-style" and commercial (video) dance movements. A large emphasis is placed on visually portraying the rhythms of the routine music. Inclusion of technical elements is kept to a minimum.
Pom choreography capitalizes on creating a superior visual effect for the audience. Choreography is designed using traditional pom technique and motions, choreographed to be sharp and uniform and is much less stylized than jazz choreography. Pom choreography will be designed so that poms are in the dancers' hands 80 percent of the total length of the routine unless otherwise specified.
High Kick choreography is designed to showcase the team's overall flexibility, extension, and technique through multiple creative kick series. Unless otherwise specified, there will be 55 kicks choreographed into a High Kick routine.
Lyrical choreography is created with the general intention of conveying a feeling, emotion, or story through dance to the audience. This type of choreography has its foundation in both jazz and ballet technique. Lyrical choreography is expressive and stylized in nature. |
