Formation Cards

One of the most challenging parts of rehearsing a new routine with a team of dancers is assigning, teaching, and remembering formations.  With multiple formation changes in one routine, not only can it be challenging for the dancer to remember his/her place, it can be a nightmare if the coach has to remember all the spaces for each dancer in each formation!  Formation Cards are yet another way that BPDS makes the coach’s job easier.

Formation cards are provided to you in three parts.   One set details each formation of the routine, identifying dancers as numbers so that it is easy to decipher which dancer moves to which position in the following formation change.  The second set details the visual effect of the group/level/partner work (the dancers’ positions depicted on the formation illustration are color-coded to link them appropriately to the correct group).

As an added benefit, the third part of the formation cards is the “Formation Synopsis.”  The Formation Synopsis consists of  tips written by your choreographer after the creation of the entire routine regarding suggestions for which “numbers” (used to identify formation positions) more advanced dancers should be assigned to as well as which numbers should be assigned to the less experienced team members.  If there is any “showcasing” in your choreography (i.e. a group of four performs a triple pirouette), the Formation Synopsis will detail which showcased skills each “number” must perform so that you can best assign dancers to the right position, in accordance to their ability and talents!
